Faculty Works in Progress: Dr. José Luis Collazo & Jasmine Ramirez

Faculty Works in Progress: Dr. José Luis Collazo & Jasmine Ramirez In-Person / Online

Faculty Development and Broome Library present Faculty Works in Progress where faculty will share research underway and seek questions and feedback to help them shape their work.

The event will be hybrid delivery: Due to space limitations, CSUCI Community members are welcome to attend in person in Broome 2325, and all are welcome to attend via the Zoom option!

""¿Italia Lindo y Querido?:” Mexican Immigrants’ Experience in Italy" by Dr. José Luis Collazo Jr., and Sociology student Jasmine Ramirez

The overarching study aims to understand Latin American immigrants’ experiences in Italy. With a CI Student mentee (who will also be presenting), we are working on a paper that examines only the Mexican immigrants’ migration process to Italy and their experiences in Italy. Of the 30 semi-structured interviews with Latin Americans, 14 of them were Mexican. The data collection has been completed. The data is currently being transcribed and coded. At the time of presentation, we hope to have preliminary themes. The feedback we want is on the preliminary themes or anything else the audience might have questions on.

José Luis Collazo Jr. is a CI Assistant Professor of Sociology. As a child of immigrant parents, they enjoy researching the Latin American diaspora. Even more they enjoy connecting with students and learning about and from them.

Jasmine Ramirez is a CSUCI senior who transferred from Ventura College in 2022. She is majoring in Sociology and minoring in Chicanx Studies. She is passionate about her academics and is greatly involved within her community.
